Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi
Logitech is a known maker for making high quality PC peripherals and computer speakers with some of them having the THX certification. They have also made well-built headphones for average computer users and gamers alike. Some of their sound products go outside the computer world and into the studio world when they released the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 to real audiophiles that want to make the most out of their huge music collections.
With the success of the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 comes another earphones product that is meant to take the functionality even further for iPhone and Blackberry owners. It is known as the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi and it delivers the same noise isolation technology as the original so external sounds are blocked out and provides above-average sound quality for all kinds of music tracks and comfort isn’t left out of the equation either.

Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi
Design and Comfort
By appearance alone, the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi looks different than traditional earphones because of its distinguishable teal finish with the Ultimate Ears logo. Logitech calls this the “gun metal blue” finish and the housing shimmers making it nice to display. Although these pieces look delicate, the black Y-cable is quite durable and lengthy measuring 46 inches and includes a slider to prevent it from tangling. To protect the delicate earphones, a metal hard case is included in the package that is crush proof and nicely designed with the Ultimate Ears logo as well.
The levels of comfort are quite flexible offering three ear cushions with sizes small, medium, and large all made of silicon. In addition, two sets of Comply™ foam fittings and a set of double-flange tips. Even with all of these different options, fitting the large earpieces may be difficult for some, but fortunately there is a moldable plastic that can be used to keep the earphones in place by looping the wire around the ear instead. On the upside, it is possible to use these earphones wherever the listener goes and it doesn’t matter if running or exercising is involved since the earphones can be worn over the ear as well just like professional monitors.
Actual user review:
“I got these because they’re the best you can get and still also have a Microphone for use with the iPhone. I’m usually not into listening to recorded classical music because it lacks the punch, power and complexity of listening to a live orchestra. However, with the Triple.fi 10vi cranked up to about 75% to 80% max volume you really start to feel like you’re in a live orchestra. You don’t usually think about bass in classical music, but it’s there even in the strings and when it’s missing the performance feels flat. With the Triple.fi 10vi’s and a high quality recording you get to hear huge dynamic range with sounds going from soft pin drops with detail to almost overwhelming crescendos with all instruments blasting but clear. Using these for phone calls is wierd because that same tight seal that allows for great bass and sound isolation prevents you from hearing yourself when you speak. You hear your caller great and clear, but when you talk it sounds wierd. The solution is to slightly crack the seal of one of the earplugs so that some external sound can leak in and you can hear your own voice naturally.” – W.Cheung (DE,USA)
Features
The Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi brings studio sound quality to the listener by incorporating three drivers in each earpiece. Each driver transmits low, medium, and high frequencies of sound in a balanced fashion. This is why the earpieces end up larger than the rest, but the size is worth it as the sound quality is noticeably better than other models. The three drivers work together through an integrated passive crossover that ensures that all of the thumping bass and clear vocals are brought together in unison. Higher frequencies take the role in treble and the end result is a real-time sound experience that people in a live studio are familiar with. This also makes tracks in their best quality to sound like a live performance by making use of the Immersion Sound Signature which emulates a 3-D sound stage.
Only the sound playing in the earpieces can be heard while listening through the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi as it uses noise isolation to effectively block as much as 26 dB of outside noise. Mid and high tones further emphasize the isolation having a broad frequency ranging from 10Hz to 20 Hz.
Exclusive to the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi is its compatibility with mobile phones including the iPhone and many Blackberry models. The package comes with an in-line phone microphone and a control button which acts a trigger to change the sound channel from music playback to voice audio from calling at will. It still remains compatible with other devices that have the 3.5 mm jack including portable devices and laptops. It can also be used with professional stereo equipment when the included 1/4 inch adapter jack is used.
Bottom Line
Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10vi is highly recommended for people that enjoy listening to their music using their phone. Phones usually provide mediocre quality compared to mp3 players, but with this set of earphones, the quality is truly brought up through the three drivers interface and makes virtually any track of any genre sound much better with good bass and sound clarity intact. This all comes at a price tag above $400, but a cleaning tool, extender cable, sound level attenuator are all included to make the entire set feel complete without the need of purchasing any other accessories to fully enjoy the listening experience.

- “I really love the Etymotic Research hf2 and still think it’s the best iPhone headset for the money. But when I tried the Triple.fi 10vi from Ultimate Ears, it was love at first listen. The Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10vi really is the next best thing to custom earphones, something Ultimate Ears is known for. Like its competitor, the Shure SE530, the Triple.fi 10vi uses three drivers, but they are arranged slightly differently from Shure’s top-end earphone. The SE530 uses two woofers for bass and one tweeter for midrange and treble, while the Triple.fi 10vi uses three balanced armature speakers: one for bass, one for midrange, and one for treble. While I found the sound quality of the SE530 to be quite muddy, the Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10vi has a more balanced sound with crisp highs, transparent mids, and deep, tight bass. Another advantage of the Triple.fi 10vi over the Shure SE530 is its built-in microphone. The microphone functions well, but as with the Super.fi 4vi and 5vi, Ultimate Ears placed the multifunction button smack in the middle, below the Y-split. Sound quality throughout is incredible. From classical to alternative to pop, the Triple.fi 10vi really is the best sounding triple-driver earphones out there. It is among the best iPhone headsets — if you can afford it.” – E.A.Guerra (FL,USA)
- “These IEMs are the ultimate enjoyment of my life. The sound is more than amazing, it’s the best thing I’ve ever heard. I owned Audio Technica M50, Sony MDR V700 DJ, AKG K701, Denon D5000, and UE Triple Fi 10 blows them out in detail, accuracy and smoothness. The only thing lacking is the physical presence of the instruments in comparison to the K701 or the D5000, this is only in comparison because the sound stage for the UE is more than enough and the instruments’ separation and spacial distribution is superb! At the price of $150-160 the UE are unbeatable. If you have a decent amplifier you’ll be in another world. It’s musical heaven! I just want to emphasize that the silicone tips are useless, I bought the Tx500 Comply Foam Tips and the sound was hugely improved in fullness and quality. They have a very nice mesh on the tip so the ear wax will not get inside and damage the earphones.” – A.M.Ahmed (CA,USA)
