Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10
Many people have their very own mp3 players often filled with thousands of different music tracks to choose from. These music tracks usually have CD quality and in order to enjoy the full experience for their favorite songs, a good pair of earphones should be used not only to hear every sound with clarity, but also keep other external noise out so that all that can be heard is the song.
Two technologies give listeners a boost in the listening experience and these are noise cancellation and noise isolation. Noise cancellation may appear to be the better solution since earphones do not necessarily have to be plugged into the ear to isolate noise, but the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 is one of the earphones that make good use of the noise isolation by making them comfortable to wear and offering some unique features to boost the performance and sound quality.

Design and Comfort
The Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 provides comfort for everyone by providing three ear cushions that are all made of silicone in different sizes. Comply™ foam ear cushions are also included in the package for a very comfortable custom fit. Although some people may have problems fitting these earphones with any of the sizes, a nice fit can still be achieved by utilizing the moldable plastic that surrounds the wire so cord can loop around the ear to keep it in place.
Travelling with these earphones is not a huge hindrance as it comes with a metallic and durable casing that is resistant to crushing. The earphones stand out design-wise sporting a gun metal blue finish and a shapeable cord to put it in the line of professional monitors.
The comfort features make listening very flexible enabling people to wear the earphones while sitting or walking. The Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 can also be worn over the ear for more performing more strenuous activities without the earphones moving out of place. The cord also boasts properties that other earphones lack with a cord length of 46 inches that does not tangle or cause earphone fallout.
“I am a music lover with experience in production studios. These earphones allow me to get closer to the original sound than any other earphones or headphones I have tried. If you are looking for earphones that will give you more bass or sweeter vocals, these may not be the right earphones. but if you want to listen to music the way it was recorded, these will let you hear every bit of detail, both good and bad. I can longer listen to MP3 or other compressed audio formats as the distortion and compression problems are too obvious not to notice, so my iPod now holds a lot less music as everything is in AIFF or Wav format. The cables does seem a bit fragile, but they are replaceble.” – J.L.Su (USA)
Features
Sound quality is highly emphasized in these earphones coming with three drivers that provide three different frequencies. These drivers work together yielding low, medium, and high frequencies by use of an integrated crossover circuit board that is passive and directs each of the frequencies to its own dedicated driver. The low frequencies serve as a dedicated speaker to produce the bass sounds while the mid-range frequencies are intended for clear vocals. Finally the high frequencies are for treble. When all combined, any music played through these earphones deliver a richer experience. Logitech, who is the manufacturer behind these earphones, brings the studio quality to the earphones effectively shaping the sound to make them sound like real studio monitors. It also has dual acoustic filters to squeeze out every sound detail of the track that is playing. Certain tracks may sound so lively that it can be compared to a real live performance. This is due to the settings of the Immersion Sound Signature.
Noise isolation is one of its strong points and is extremely effective in blocking outside noise. Up to 26 dB can be blocked securely without sacrificing any comfort due to its armature speaker design.
As long as there is a device with a 3.5 mm jack, the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 should work in its maximum potential making it a great pair to use not only for mp3 players, but laptops, certain cellular phones that have dedicated music features, and other portable media gadgets.
Some of the extras that are included in the package are a cleaning tool for maintenance, extender cable, 1/4th inch adapter jack, in-line phone microphone, and airline attenuator for lowering the volume levels for noisy sources.
Bottom Line
As long as the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 fit well, the end result is a true sound experience no matter what tracks are being played thanks to the three drivers. Whether it is simple pop, jazz, folk, rock, or upbeat techno, house, and electronic, the earphones perform extremely well with the frequencies balanced out and bass totally in. The earphones are quite pricey at $330, but all of the extra accessories that are included and amazing sound quality make it an excellent value.

• “I previously owned a pair of SuperFi Pro 5′s and eventually one of the drivers in one earbud gave up the ghost. I contacted Ultimate Ears and they would only replace phones, not repair them. Then I was told the SuperFi Pro 5s were only sold in stores, not on-line, so the only replacement earbuds I could get were the TripleFi 10. They offered the earbuds at half-price, so I went ahead and got them. The first time I put them in my ears I was amazed at the bass and the “presence” from them. The bass is just “there”, not over-the-top, and everything sounds lifelike. I have actually been fooled when I forget I am listening to earbuds, and turn to look at the source of a sound which is in a recording. My opinion of them has only got better in the six months I’ve owned them, and I dread the day a driver breaks. Between my wife and me we’ve owned Etymotics, Shures and the two pair of Ultimate Ears. I would not hesitate to recommend these earbuds, but would insist anyone who bought them based on my recommendation try several different tips before they get discouraged. I am beginning to think this is the case with all high-end earbuds.” – C.Huson (IL,USA)
• “Best sounding earbuds I’ve ever heard bar none! This pair is an upgrade from my Shure E4c earbuds which also had/have excellent sound reproduction but definitely lacked in the bass department. This is the first headset I’ve had that has all the sound bases covered from treble, mids to bass, but I guess that’s the benefit of the triple drivers in each bud. Those triple drivers are also the main shortcoming of these earbuds. They necessitate a HUGE housing. Once I get them properly seated in my ear canal, they aren’t any more or less comfortable than other buds I’ve used but the size IMHO makes it hard to properly insert them. I wear them “normal” with the cord hanging straight down and the angled housing point backwards towards my ears. I have no problem with this, but if your ears stick out from your head a bit more than average, the housing may rub the back of your ears. This is the one pair of earbuds where I’d recommend actually trying them on before purchase to see if they will fit. For the price there was no second guessing the purchase and I’m obviously not adverse to paying for good sound as I previously had the Shure E4c’s which I paid $275 for a couple years ago. That being said, these are THE best sounding buds, but the size/comfort could be an issue for some. “ – J.Dulak (USA)
