When there is a need for a new pair of earphones for a portable media player or laptop, the tendency is to get the most basic form of headphones from a known manufacturer. This should cost around $10 to $20 and the sound quality should be satisfactory with the vocals pretty clear and the bass at average. Care should be taken when spending more money on a more professional set of earphones as many enhancements back up the seemingly hefty price tag.
The Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4 is a great example of how pricey headphones can be costing around $120. However, compared to the other models of the Ultimate Ears family, the SuperFi 4 is actually very inexpensive and sports a lot of features and add-ons to vastly improve the overall listening experience. While it has the same noise isolating features as the cheaper SuperFi 3 model, the SuperFi 4 offers a little bit more add-ons and a refined design.

Design and Comfort
The design of the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4 actually resembles some of low-end Ultimate Ears MetroFi series, but gains its superiority by being sleeker and more durable with its silver design called by Logitech as “Gun metal silver”.
Comfort is one of the main features that the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4 strives to bring to the table in order to make the price more worth it. Logitech successfully achieved this as the earphones are indeed comfortable providing that they fit perfectly in the ear and it isn’t all the time that a perfect fit is made for maximum comfort. Fortunately, the SuperFi 4 includes a set of Silicone ear cushions called the “Universal Fit Ear Tip Kit“.
As the name indicates, the kit aims to provide various sized ear tips for a comfortable fit to any listener. Three pairs are included in small, medium, and large sizes as well as two pairs of Comply foam ear tips that are even more comfortable. Overall, the SuperFi earphones are small, but the apertures are bigger than average and may not fit well in smaller ears. Fortunately, there is a flexible plastic that allows the cord to wrap around the top of the ear for a better fit. A hard carrying case is also included which can conveniently fit into a pocket where the earphones are safely stored and the slider makes sure that the wires never get tangled. The cord’s length is just 46 inches so it may be a bit short for tall people.

Features
Like the other Ultimate Ears products, the SuperFi 4 boasts better noise isolation features than other earphones effectively blocking up to 26 dB of outside noise. It also excels in sound quality as well thanks to the custom-armature speaker that delivers both mid and tones clearly and a controlled bass to suit all kinds of music genres. The Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4 is compatible with all devices that have the standard 3.5mm jack which means that it can work not only with mp3 players and portable audio devices, but also laptops.
Regarding overall performance, the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4 does very well in the high-end response making acoustic songs sound very lively and the mids sounding warm. The bass isn’t the best in the Ultimate Ears lineup, but it does sound better than any average earphones being sold. Good quality music should sound clearer and all the other noise is cancelled out providing that the earpieces are securely placed.
Bottom Line
The Ultimate Ears lineup deserves its respect for maintaining above-average sound quality and the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 4 is definitely no exception. Although it is a bit pricier than the SuperFi 3 at $125, extra items are included in the package including an airplane adapter and the cleaning tool for maintenance. It is also the best pair to get for people that really want good quality in their music without spending way beyond you’re their budget as the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5 is priced nearing $200. All of the SuperFi models have the same noise isolation features so using the SuperFi 4 doesn’t leave much behind. The technology alone makes this one of the best earphones in its price range.
