Design and Comfort

The Ultimate Ears 700 is very unique for its special microdesign look having just the size of a small coin. This makes them very easy and comfortable to wear for a variety of sizes. Like some of the high-end and mid-range Ultimate Ears products, the Ultimate Ears 700 includes an ear tip kit that provides cushioning and noise isolation in three different sizes as well as two additional pairs of Comply-foamed ear tips for a snug fit. Finding the best noise isolation is as easy as experimenting each pair.

These small, but well-crafted and lightweight earphones deserve some protection especially when travelling and that is nicely provided in the package as the Ultimate Ears 700 comes with a convenient compact storage case that can fit in just about any pocket.

Actual user review:
“These earphones are nothing short of phenomenal. I don’t say that lightly. These earphones are wonderful. Acoustically, they’re incredibly clear. I’ve spent the better half of a couple of days listening to all kids of music from both digital and analog sources. Old live jazz performances sound like you’re there in the club. Voices come through with the utmost clarity. Pink Floyd sounds like, well, Pink Floyd. Right now I’m listening to Claude Bolling’s Suite for Chamber Orch and Jazz Piano Trio…even classical music sounds like it should. Physically, the Ultimate Ears 700 are quite comfortable. I personally prefer headphones to earphones, but these are very wearable. The silicone tips are very compliant and the standard size fit my ears. There are larger and smaller tips in the package, as well as two pair made out of a compressible compliant foam. You should find something to fit your ears among them. The driver assembly is small and lightweight…most of the weight you feel comes from the wires. I’d love to see how these are built, they must work using a microscope to get everything into that small of package. To wrap up…If you’re spending a couple of hundred dollars on a set of earphones, you should listen to a few before buying. Make sure that you put these on your short list. I certainly like them. I think you will too.” – W.B.Halper (CA,USA)

Features

The Ultimate Ears 700 is all about talking the quality to much higher heights and its construction alone highlights just how advanced this model really is. There are two major parts that are within its silver housing with the first being an audio filter that many other Ultimate Ears products have as it is needed to shape the sound making sure that every detail is present. The second component is more advanced because it uses two precision armature speakers instead of one which the SuperFi family of devices utilizes. This makes the high and mid tonal ranges a lot clearer and more defined. The two speakers serve as separate high-fidelity channels for a nice balanced listening for each ear custom-tuned to 10 to 16.5 Hz. This means music tracks of all genres will sound a lot better with richer vocals and balanced subtle effects.

Because of the different ear-cushions available, better noise isolation is attained. The amount of noise that can be cancelled out remains the same blocking up to 26 dB. It is even flexible enough for listening by putting the earphones over the ear or while doing strenuous activities like exercising.

Compatibility is also a strong point of the Ultimate Ears 700 because it can work in every device with the 3.5mm jack. This includes all of the popular mp3 players including Apple’s lineup of iPods and the iPhone. It can also work with Blackberry device and all laptops and desktops as well.

Bottom Line

The sound quality is astonishing especially when the perfect fit is attained after trying the different ear cushions. It is much more precise than even a standard pair of Ultimate Ears earphones and that alone is a major difference in audio quality when directly compared to all of the budget headphones that cost $10 to $30. The Ultimate Ears 700 does come at a heavy price tag of its own at $200, but a lot more is offered in this particular package with the dual armature layout for the pro-quality sound serving as one of the hottest features available. The technology is even brought further with the more expensive TripleFi 10 devices, but the Ultimate Ears 700 is still a good choice for excellent performance in all kinds of music. To make the package even more valuable, other accessories are included also including a sound level attenuator that can be useful for noisier sound level sources and works by lowering all the volume levels.

The Ultimate Ears 700 is the result of advanced technologies only used by professional studios and Logitech successfully delivers in bringing this technology to consumers that want to get a better kick out of their music collection. It is a great pair of earphones to get as long as they fit well.

I’m not generally the guy with the fancy earphones or speakers. I like music. A lot. But I definitely wouldn’t call myself an audiophile. My idea of splurging on a set of headphones is fifty bucks. Well, I can’t speak for the others, but that “logic” doesn’t even remotely apply to the Ultimate Ears 700 earphones. I typically prefer the full “can” headphones because, in the past, I’ve felt that they deliver a wider range. The “ear buds” generally hurt my ears after about half an hour as well. The UE 700s blow away any earphones I’ve ever used, “can” or otherwise. The silicone cushions coupled with the light weight of the earphones, don’t really feel like anything. In fact, they might as well be floating in your ear for as little as you can feel them. These are undoubtedly the most comfortable earphones I’ve had the pleasure of using. The range is full and strong. I’m not a hip hop or rap aficionado. I generally like rock, industrial and indie, but I do like to hear a strong bass line when it’s present. This has always been a concern with “ear buds” as they’re notorious for carrying little more than the mid to high range. The 700s shocked me. It’s hard to believe that such a full sound, rich with lows, can come out of these little guys. Regardless of your music preference, the 700s will be sure to please. The sound quality is, bar none, the best I’ve heard to date. The only way it could be better is if the musicians were standing next to you. Seriously, the clarity is outstanding. You will hear every string pluck, key stroke and voice inflection. As I said, I’m not an audiophile. I can’t draw comparisons to the other high dollar headphones on the market because I’ve never owned a pair before. I can say though, that if you’re looking for a high dollar/professional quality set, that these will not disappoint. “ – T.Paslay (USA)

I’ve never been a big fan of in-ear earbuds because I find them to be extremely uncomfortable to wear for extended periods. The Ultimate Ears 700 aren’t really the exception, but they do come with a variety of different swappable earpieces that you can use to find a close fit for you. They include several that are different sized white, translucent pieces like the ones shown the product photos. They also include one set of big, gray foam pieces that kind of convert the UE 700s into a standard pair of earbuds where they rest outside of your ear canal. After I found a good fit, I started listening to music and I was really blown away by how great these sound. My other headphones include lower-end Sennheisers like the HD-202, MX-500s, and PX-100s. They’re all absolutely excellent value, but the UE 700s really blow them away. I finally understand what people mean when they describe the soundstage of a pair of headphones. I’m not a trained audiophile, but I would say that the UE 700s made everything sound more “realistic” where instruments sounded like they were a proper distance away from me. Overall, I’m very happy with the sound quality, but I knock off one star because of the price. These earbuds definitely aren’t the best bang for your buck, but if you need sound isolation, excellent sound quality, and a tiny form factor at any cost, then the UE 700s are for you.” – J.Lin (CA,USA)
