Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220vi
There are lots of people who want to enjoy their music in noise isolating pleasure, and manufacturers have realized this and released a myriad of earphones to tempt and tease you, and ultimately get you to buy their earphones rather than those of a rival company. The Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220vi is another example from the Logitech Ultimate Ears range and are their dual purpose headphones that come in at the mid range price at under $100, making them an interesting option for many people.

Design
We have said before that Logitech make stylish products, and the MetroFi range is no exception. With basic ear plug styling with black wires, the 220 range has silver finished ear buds and, as is standard with this range, the right ear is banded in red making it easily identifiable from the left which isn’t. Standard in the box are the three sizes of ear cushion meaning that you can get the perfect fit, and should you happen to lose one of them you will be pleased to know you can purchase another set from their website, which is useful. Once fitted with the right ear cushions we were impressed at how well these earphones stayed put, even when rushing up and down stairs on the tube. This is great for those of you who need to commute regularly, and would work just as well for those who like to run. Again the small plastic flip top case is included which makes storing and transporting your noise isolating earphones a breeze, and prevents the dreaded wire knotting that irritatingly occurs.
“I do not usually take the time to write reviews, but this one truly deserves one. I was looking for a good quality earphone with noise isolation and a microphone that I could use with my desktop, laptop and Blackberry. I had a hard time finding a device with all the features I was looking for, but this one accomplished 98% of the task, providing an outstanding sound quality and noise isolation at the same time. The only shortfall was the need to buy a Y adapter (one 3.5m female and two 3.5m male) to use in my desktop and laptop for internet meetings and chats. The design is very good, the extra silicon tips provide the right level of comfort for the ear, the hard case is small and durable, and the microphone is excellent for meetings, chats, and phone calls. The multifunction button allows you to pause the music or video on your phone and answer a phone call. After another press of the button, it resumes your previous activity. I use it all day at the office and feel very comfortable. Quality of sound for music, video and voice is excellent.” – G.Almeida (MD,USA)
Performance
This is another of the dual-purpose range on offer from Logitech, which is identifiable by the ‘vi’ at the end of the product name. What this means is that these are designed to work with the mobile phone range of products, where you may be listening to music when the phone will ring. The Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220vi has a built in microphone and a control button on the wire, which means that you can answer the phone and conduct a normal call without having to take the headset out. You caller will be heard clearly in your ears and you can speak back using the good quality microphone, and when the call is finished simply click the button again and the music will be returned – perfect!
In terms of sound performance, the 220 range has been upgraded from their lower ranges to have the titanium finished speakers which means that you get a much deeper richer sound, and the playback remains crisp and clear which means you do not need to use excessive volumes. Like their single purpose brother, the 220, the 220vi also features the 16dB noise isolation technology which really does cut down on the amount of outside noise that can get through. Thanks to the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, these earphones are also compatible with a whole range of devices so you are sure to find more than one use for them.
Actual User Reviews:
• “Reviewing headphones is a tough thing to do. These sound great to my ears, the microphone and audio controls work well, they are comfortable for wearing casually or while exercising, the cord is a good length, etc. What else is there really? The “noise isolating” feature works really well, and everything else will sound a bit muffled while you’re listening to these phones. I’m not the biggest fan of in-ear headphones, but these are more comfortable than most and didn’t annoy me as much as the standard iPod earbuds do. I’ve used them while running, working up a heavy sweat, so they seem durable enough to get through most typical uses.” – J.Strawn (NM,USA)
• “Excellent Earphones. Very comfortable to wear even when going to sleep. Smaller then other UE earphones. I’ve compared these to higher priced UE and other earphones and these hold their own. Nice to use with an iPhone as you can pause the sound while talking on the phone then go right back to where you left off with the little button on the cord. Sounds is detailed and pleasant without much boost in any area. Very satisfied customer and my experience with UE (now Logitech) service with other products has been very good. Can’t really think of anything negative to say about them. You can pay a lot more for other phones but I’m pretty sure you may not be much happier.” – D.Seigel (CA,USA)
